| The Main Program window is opened when the user chooses "New Portfolio" from the "File" menu. The portfolio window can hold as many underlying assets as the user wishes. For example, if the user works with a stock portfolio made of shares from Procter & Gamble (PG), Dell (DELL) and E*Trade (ET), the data can be loaded into the same window. The Main Window is where all the information on current transactions and their performance will be presented to the user. The following screenshot shows how the empty window looks. |
| The usual next step when opening the main window is to load some data onto it. If you are working with End-Of-Day data (available through subscription), then the loaded data (for all of the underlying assets will appear in the Assets tab (see right). |
| If working from EOD data, the options chain for a specific underlying asset can be loaded into the Main Window by double-clicking the row for a specific asset. If working with free CBOE data, the options will be loaded automatically from the tab-delimited file. Either way, the Options Chain tab should look like in the screenshot at right. |
| The first tab with graphics in the Main Window is the Exercise Chart tab. This tab will show the profits and losses of a selected options strategy when exercising the options (as opposed to exiting the options position). The example to the right shows a Put purchase. Clickingon the chart will position the blue line and calculate the profits or losses for that given point. The sliding bar to the right changes the drawing y axis scale. |
| The second tab contains the Time Chart. As its name indicates, the Time Chart's purpose is to show the effect of time on a given options strategy. In the screenshot at right, we are showing how the profits (green) and losses (red) areas are a function of the stock price (y-axis) and the time to expiration (x-axis). There are two alternatives for viewing the areas: viewing the exit results (shown) and the exercise results. In this case, as the Put option loses value, the stock price must decrease even more to turn a profit. |
| The third tab shows the Exit Chart that contains the graph that depicts the profits and losses for an options strategy if the user decides to exit the position. As in the Exercise Chart, the bar to the right of the chart moves the y-axis scale. Clicking on the chart will position the blue line that indicates the asset price. The curve on the chart represents the profits and losses for a given point in time. This time is set by clicking on the Time Chart, explained previously. |
| Another important element in the Options Czar main window is the Operations Table, located at the left of the window. This table contains the options and stock operations. If the user has options from different underlying assets, this will be shown in this table. Each asset contains a collapsing folder with options and assets operations. The circle in front of the option name indicates whether it is in-the-money (green), out-of-the-money (orange), expired (red), unsaved (hollow) or has been saved into a portfolio (full). The pull-down menu on top of the table will select the underlying asset. |
