Finite Number Of Boxes in Pallets

Run Quick Pallet Maker. Make sure that you have downloaded the latest version by visiting this page: http://www.koona.com/downloads/index.html and then open a new document starting from box by using File -> New Data Sheet -> Start from Box Example 02
If you will be using units different than the default units, you can change them through the command on the Tools menu or through the Preferences window (Tools -> Settings for Windows OS). In this example, we change from cm/kg to inches/lbs. Example 02
In this example, we will be pasting the box dimensions from a MS Excel spreadsheet. The column arrangement for this spreadsheet can be found here. We added three boxes with the following dimensions and quantities: 22x13x13 (15 boxes), 24x22x12 (25 boxes) and 23x23x9 (18 boxes). You can download the file we used through this link. Once we load the data, we copy the section in yellow. Example 02
...and paste it directly to the central table of the Start From Box window. We should see the three boxes listed in the central table. In this example, we used inches as the unit of the window and of the pasted data. However, if the data would have carried a different unit, the box dimensions would have been updated according to the window settings. We change the pallet type to a 48"x40" and the maximum load+pallet height to 90", which is slightly lower than the 20' container maximum height. Example 02
Once this has been done, we select "Calculate Multiple Boxes" from the Tools menu. Example 02
The Available Solutions window appears to show three pallets that load all of the boxes in the list. Example 02
The best way to visualize all the pallets in the shipment is to select them all and load onto a sample container. This is done by selecting "Fill Container" from the Tools menu. Example 02
A new window will appear with the three pallets. We use the default 20' container and then click on the second tab in the window. Example 02
This produces the container fill drawing that can be seen at right. This drawing can be copied and pasted onto a third-party application or printed. Example 02
There is also an option to fit the boxes into the pallets in a more compact way. This is done by placing hte boxes on their sides if their contents permit it. From the Tools menu we select Pallet Actions -> Generate Stable Pallets and the boxes will be allowed to be placed on their sides if their dimensions do not create boxes too tall, narrow or flat when they are placed differently. Example 02
Please note how the checkboxes are marked next to the case drawing. Example 02
When we use "Calculate Multiple Boxes" again from the Tools menu, we find that the pallets now have boxes on their sides. Example 02
And if we look at them all at once, we see that they are placed differently than before. However, we would choose the first arrangement (with the boxes right-side-up) because the alternative delivers the same amount of boxes. Example 02
